Chapter 8 - The Tarmac Ambush

I slammed the steering wheel hard to the right, drifting the heavy truck across the slick runway.

I parked the vehicle completely sideways, directly blocking the path of the accelerating jet.

The pilot immediately hit the emergency brakes, the massive tires screaming against the wet asphalt.

The plane aggressively swerved and came to a violently shaking halt just twenty feet from our truck.

The cabin door of the private jet forcefully kicked open.

David stepped out onto the top of the metal stairs, holding an automatic rifle.

He did not hesitate for a single second before opening fire on our vehicle.

Bullets shattered the windshield of the truck, showering Sarah and me with dangerous shards of glass.

"Get down and stay in the floorboard!" I shouted, pushing Sarah safely beneath the dashboard.

I kicked open my door and rolled out onto the wet, freezing tarmac.

I crawled behind the massive rear tire of the truck, using the engine block for cover.

David continued to fire in short, controlled bursts, pinning me completely down.

I reached into the emergency roadside kit strapped in the bed of the truck.

My fingers wrapped around the thick plastic handle of a maritime flare gun.

I broke open the breach and loaded a massive, high-combustion red flare into the chamber.

I took a deep breath, listening carefully to the rhythm of David’s gunfire.

The moment his rifle clicked empty to reload, I stepped out from behind the tire.

I aimed the flare gun directly at the massive jet engine located near the tail of the plane.

I pulled the heavy trigger, sending a blinding streak of red fire across the dark runway.

The burning flare shot perfectly into the intake of the spinning turbine engine.

A massive explosion of fire and thick black smoke erupted from the side of the aircraft.

The engine completely stalled out, grinding with a terrible, deafening mechanical scream.
