Chapter 3 - The False Charges

I stared at the police officers in absolute disbelief.
"He is lying to you, he is the one who hurt this little girl," I shouted defensively.
The taller officer aggressively slammed me against the cold hospital wall.
He wrenched my arms behind my back and clicked the cold steel handcuffs around my wrists.
Sarah lunged forward to defend me, screaming that Greg was a monster.
The second officer immediately placed his hand on his taser and warned Sarah to step back.
Greg stood safely behind the cops, flashing a wicked, arrogant smile.
He pulled a thick manila envelope from his jacket and handed it to the officer.
"I have emergency custody papers right here, signed by a judge," Greg claimed confidently.
My heart sank as I realized they had planned this entire legal trap in advance.
"Take the key and do not let them touch Mia," I whispered urgently to Sarah as they dragged me away.
They pulled me down the sterile hallway and shoved me into an empty holding room.
They chained my handcuffs to a heavy metal pipe bolted to the concrete wall.
The officers locked the door behind them, leaving me entirely alone in the dark.
I had served twenty years in the military before retiring to a quiet life.
I knew exactly how to escape a standard set of police restraints.
I reached into my back pocket and pulled out a small metal paperclip I always carried.
It took me exactly forty seconds to pick the locking mechanism of the handcuffs.
The metal cuffs fell to the floor with a quiet, satisfying clink.
I carefully cracked the holding room door open and peered into the hallway.
The corrupt officers were drinking coffee near the nurses' station at the far end.
Greg was standing completely alone near the vending machines, typing frantically on his cell phone.
I slipped out of the room like a ghost and walked silently up behind him.
I wrapped my forearm tightly around his throat and dragged him into the janitor's closet.
I slammed him against the mop sink and pressed my forearm against his windpipe.

"Tell me exactly what is happening in Room 412, or you will not leave this closet alive," I growled.
Greg's eyes bulged in absolute terror as he stared into my furious face.
