Chapter 3 - The Hostage Play

"What the hell is he doing there?" I yelled, frantically grabbing the tablet from her hands.
"He is tying up loose ends," Eleanor said with chilling calmness.
"Nick knows you were the one who ruined his timeline by saving my life."
I ordered the driver to turn the car around and head to the school immediately.
Eleanor placed a cold, firm hand on my wrist to stop me.
"My elite security team is already deployed at the school," she promised.
"They are actively watching your daughters, but we need Nick to think he has the upper hand."
She instructed me to go back to the agency tonight and break into Nick's private executive safe.
"He has the physical financial ledgers that prove his massive embezzlement scheme," she said.
My phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming call from an unknown number.
I answered it and heard Nick's arrogant, mocking voice through the speaker.
"I hope you enjoyed your little joyride, Sebastian," Nick sneered.
"If you touch a single hair on their heads, I will kill you," I whispered dangerously.
Nick laughed a hollow, incredibly ugly sound.
"I have your lovely twins tied up in the back of my car right now," he lied smoothly.
I looked down at Eleanor's tablet, which showed my daughters safely boarding a yellow school bus guarded by her armed men.
Nick was obviously bluffing to manipulate and control me.
"Bring the black envelope to the office at midnight, or you will never see them again," Nick ordered.
Before I could agree to his terms, the live video feed on the tablet violently went dark.

Eleanor's private phone rang, and her confident face turned completely pale as she listened.
"My security men are all dead," she whispered in absolute horror.
