Chapter 2 - The Corporate Ghost

"Who are you and how do you know my name?" I demanded aggressively into the phone.
"My name is Eleanor Vance, and I know everything about you," she replied effortlessly.
"You collapsed on the pavement and you were barely breathing," I said, my anger and confusion rising together.
"I was poisoned by a corporate rival, Sebastian, and you were the only unpredictable variable they didn't anticipate."
She explained that the ambulance I called had actually been intercepted by her own private medical team.
She told me a heavily armored black SUV was currently waiting for me at the corner of the office block.
I hesitated for a moment, thinking about my twin daughters who were waiting at their school.
"If you want to protect your girls from the people who poisoned me, you will get in the car," she warned.
That terrifying threat made my blood run entirely cold.
I sprinted out of the building and ran to the corner where the sleek vehicle was idling by the curb.
The heavy rear door opened automatically as I approached.
I climbed inside and came face to face with Eleanor.
She was dressed in an immaculate white designer suit, looking absolutely nothing like a dying victim.
"Nick’s agency was pitching a massive advertising campaign to my holding company this morning," she explained.
"Your boss tried to murder me to execute a hostile takeover of my corporate assets while I was incapacitated."
I stared at her in stunned silence, completely unable to process the terrifying scale of what she was saying.
"Why would you possibly involve a fired copywriter in this?" I asked defensively.
"Because you proved you have a functioning conscience, and I desperately need an inside man."
She reached across the leather seat and handed me a sleek tablet displaying live security footage.

I gasped loudly as I looked at the glowing high-definition screen.
The hidden camera video clearly showed Nick standing inside the cafeteria of my daughters' elementary school.
