Chapter 9 - The Mother of Lies

I slowly turned around and saw my mother holding the pistol that Caleb had dropped during the struggle.

Victoria’s hands were remarkably steady, and her eyes were filled with a dark, terrifying resolve.

She looked at me and coldly confessed that she was the one who had originally contacted the foreign syndicate.

She had always hated my father’s patriotism, believing his brilliant technology should belong to the highest international bidder.

Victoria admitted that she had poisoned my father’s medication, slowly killing him to seize control of his lucrative company.

When she realized my father had left the company to me, she manipulated Caleb into organizing this massive legal fraud.

She demanded that I hand over the hard drive immediately, or she would shoot me directly in the heart.

I stared at the woman who had given me life, realizing she possessed absolutely no maternal love for me.

I slowly extended my hand to give her the drive, waiting for the perfect microsecond of distraction.

As her eyes flicked downward toward the metal casing, I aggressively swiped the barrel of the gun away from my body.

The weapon discharged harmlessly into the concrete ceiling, deafening everyone standing in the immediate vicinity.

I stepped into her personal space and delivered a precise, non-lethal strike to her sternum, knocking the wind out of her.

Victoria collapsed to her knees, gasping for air as the pistol clattered uselessly across the dirty floor.

I looked down at her and calmly stated that she would never touch my father’s legacy again.

An FBI agent rushed forward and secured Victoria in handcuffs, dragging her away toward a waiting transport vehicle.

The lead federal prosecutor arrived on the scene, holding up a remote detonator linked to explosive charges throughout the building.
