Chapter 7 - The Hostage

Dozens of police officers jumped out of their cruisers, aiming bright tactical lights and weapons directly at us.

The corrupt mercenary from the courtroom stepped out of the lead police vehicle, wearing a stolen police captain's uniform.

He had completely compromised the local precinct, using the real officers as his personal backup squad.

The mercenary ordered the officers to arrest me and Daniel for committing a terrorist attack on the courthouse.

He pointed at the unconscious bodies on the ground, falsely claiming we had murdered innocent civilians.

I knew that if we surrendered our weapons, we would be quietly executed in the back of a police transport van.

Caleb suddenly stood up from the ground, his face pale and his hands shaking uncontrollably.

My brother grabbed my mother by the throat and pulled a hidden pistol from his expensive suit jacket.

He aimed the gun at Victoria’s head, screaming that he would kill his own mother if the police did not let him leave.

The corrupt mercenary laughed, completely unbothered by Caleb’s desperate and pathetic hostage situation.

He raised his rifle and told Caleb that Victoria was no longer a valuable asset to the syndicate.

My mother looked at Caleb with a heartbreaking expression of absolute horror, finally realizing the monster she had raised.

I could not let my mother die, even after the countless lies she had told to destroy my entire life.

I threw the stolen hard drive onto the ground between us and kicked it forcefully toward the mercenary.

I yelled that the drive was heavily encrypted with a biometric lock that only my specific heartbeat could open.

I told the mercenary that if he shot anyone in this garage, the drone code would permanently delete itself.

The mercenary hesitated, staring greedily at the small metal drive resting on the cold concrete.

A loud, mechanical humming noise suddenly began to vibrate through the ceiling of the underground garage.
