Chapter 1 - The False Prophet

The heavy oak doors of the courtroom rattled violently against their brass hinges.

I kept my eyes locked on the large clock ticking above the judge’s bench.

My mother stopped smiling and turned around to see what was interrupting her perfect performance.

The doors burst open, but it was not the military backup I had been praying for.

Four men in dark suits pushed their way past the bailiffs with federal badges flashing on their belts.

The lead agent walked straight down the center aisle and pointed directly at me.

He loudly declared that he had a federal warrant for my immediate arrest under the Espionage Act.

The entire courtroom erupted into absolute chaos as reporters began shouting questions all at once.

My attorney jumped up and demanded to see the legal paperwork justifying this outrageous intrusion.

The agent ignored him entirely and pulled a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt.

My brother Caleb smirked, leaning back in his chair with the relaxed posture of a man who had orchestrated everything.

I looked down at the agent’s wrist as he reached out to grab my arm.

A very specific black ink tattoo of a venomous snake was barely visible beneath his shirt cuff.

My father had warned me about a ruthless syndicate using that exact symbol to launder stolen defense contracts.

This man was not a legitimate federal agent sent to uphold the law.

He was an armed mercenary hired by my family to remove me before my military files became declassified.

I stepped back, raising my hands in a slow, calculated gesture of false surrender.

I loudly stated that I would not leave the courtroom until the judge formally reviewed the arrest warrant.

The agent’s eyes narrowed, and he subtly unclipped the holster of his concealed weapon.

He whispered that if I did not walk out the door quietly, he would shoot my lawyer in the chest.
