Chapter 9 - The Deadly Standoff

The leader of the Russian strike team walked slowly down the platform.
He was a giant of a man with a thick, jagged scar across his throat.
He looked at Adrian and smiled a terrible, cold smile.
The Russian boss explained that Derek owed their organization fifteen million dollars.
Derek had promised them my trust fund and my life insurance money to clear his massive gambling debts.
Since I was still breathing, the Russians had come to collect their collateral personally.
They wanted to take me hostage until Derek paid them every single dime.
Adrian drew his weapon and aimed it directly at the Russian’s head.
He declared that nobody was touching me tonight.
I gripped the small pistol in my left hand, my heart pounding in my ears.
The Russian boss simply laughed at Adrian’s threat.
He told his men to lower their weapons for a moment.
He looked directly at Adrian with a mocking glint in his eye.
He asked Adrian why he was risking a full gang war over a woman he was paid to destroy.

I looked up at Adrian in complete confusion.
The Russian boss smirked and told Adrian to step aside, or he would tell me the truth about my father's death.
