Chapter 6 - The Broken Trust

I froze in pure terror as my brother aimed the gun at my only protector.
Adrian did not even flinch.
He looked at Leo with absolute boredom.
I pleaded with Leo to put the weapon down before he got himself killed.
Leo yelled that the men who tried to grab him at the gas station had the Vale family crest tattooed on their necks.
Adrian calmly explained that his syndicate was large, and traitors could be bought.
He slowly raised his hands to show he was unarmed.
Adrian told Leo that if he wanted him dead, he would not have brought him to this house.
Leo hesitated, his hands shaking violently under the pressure.
Adrian moved with lightning speed, disarming my brother in a fraction of a second.
He tossed the gun onto the desk and poured Leo a glass of water.
I collapsed onto the sofa, my heart hammering against my ribs.
We realized that Derek was not acting alone.
Someone with massive underworld connections was funding my husband’s elaborate scheme.
Adrian asked Leo if anyone else had contacted him tonight.
Leo nodded slowly, still eyeing Adrian with heavy suspicion.
He revealed that Chloe had called him from a burner phone an hour ago.
Chloe told Leo that Derek was planning to betray her too.

She offered to sell Leo a flash drive containing all the proof of Derek’s crimes.
She wanted two million dollars in cash by dawn.
