Chapter 5 - The Desperate Hunt

I screamed and threw the television remote across the room.
Leo was only twenty-two years old and completely innocent.
Derek was framing my baby brother for my murder to ensure Leo could never contest the inheritance.
I ran out of the guest room and found Adrian in his study.
I begged him to help me find Leo before the corrupt police did.
Adrian saw the pure desperation in my eyes.
He immediately dispatched his best tactical teams into the city.
I paced the floor of the study for three agonizing hours.
Every tick of the grandfather clock felt like a hammer against my skull.
I felt completely helpless with my broken right hand safely bound in a cast.
Finally, the heavy doors of the study swung open.
Adrian’s men walked in, dragging someone between them.
It was Leo, bruised and terrified.
I rushed forward and threw my left arm around his neck.
Leo sobbed into my shoulder, entirely shocked that I was still alive.
I asked him what had happened tonight.
Leo explained that he received a frantic text from my phone asking him to bring gasoline for the backup generator.
Derek had used the phone I left at the party to lure him into the trap.
Suddenly, Leo pushed me away and pulled a stolen gun from his jacket.
He pointed the trembling barrel directly at Adrian’s chest.
May you like
Leo screamed that the men who chased him tonight were not cops.
He swore that they were Adrian’s own mafia enforcers.
