Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Adrian did not say a single word in response.
He simply pulled the trigger.
The bullet caught the Russian boss right between the eyes.
Absolute chaos erupted in the underground station.
Deafening gunfire echoed off the tiled walls as Adrian’s men engaged the cartel.
Adrian grabbed my waist and threw us behind a thick concrete pillar.
I used my left hand to fire blindly into the smoke, trying to keep them back.
Adrian fought like a demon, taking down five men before we reached the emergency exit.
We finally broke through the street-level doors and piled into the armored SUV.
We sped away into the night, the sound of sirens wailing in the distance.
Back at the secure penthouse, we plugged Chloe’s flash drive into a secure laptop.
The files contained everything we needed to destroy my husband.
There were audio recordings of Derek planning the arson, the fake body, and the frame-up.
Adrian immediately forwarded the entire encrypted package to the FBI and the bank.
Within an hour, the news announced that Derek’s accounts were frozen and a nationwide manhunt was underway.
I let out a massive sigh of relief, finally feeling like the nightmare was over.
I had saved my brother, protected my inheritance, and ruined the man who broke my hand.
I walked into Adrian’s private office to thank him properly for saving my life.
The room was empty, but his heavy steel wall safe had been left slightly ajar.
A thick manila folder was resting on the edge of the shelf, and my maiden name was printed on the tab.
Curiosity overwhelmed me, and I opened the heavy file.
Inside was a contract dated exactly ten years ago.

It detailed a fifty-million-dollar payment given to Derek to marry me and slowly drain my father’s company from the inside.
The signature authorizing the massive payout at the bottom of the page belonged to Adrian Vale.
