Chapter 3 - The Billionaire's Ransom

The phone line went dead with a sharp, echoing click that filled the silent hospital room.

Two armed police officers burst through the door mere seconds later, their hands resting cautiously on their weapons.

They immediately separated us, forcefully pulling Ethan into the busy hallway for intense questioning.

I sat completely alone in the cold hospital bed, weeping uncontrollably for my missing little girl.

An hour later, a towering man in a sharp, expensive custom suit walked past the police officers without being stopped.

He flashed a solid gold badge to the hospital guards and stepped quietly into my private room.

He politely introduced himself as a private investigator exclusively hired by the Vance family estate.

He calmly explained that Ethan was actually the sole heir to a massive, multi-billion-dollar global shipping empire.

Julian had orchestrated the kidnapping to force Ethan out of hiding and make him sign away his entire legal inheritance.

The investigator handed me a thick, sealed envelope bearing an intricate wax family crest.

He said Julian had set up a hostage exchange point for tonight at an abandoned warehouse down by the city docks.

He explicitly warned that if the police were involved in any way, Julian promised to drop the baby into the freezing ocean.

Ethan suddenly rushed back into the room, shoving past the investigator with his eyes blazing with protective fury.

He slammed the investigator hard against the wall, demanding to know exactly how his corrupt family had managed to find us.

The investigator smoothly adjusted his expensive silk tie and offered a cold, mocking smirk.

He told Ethan to check the tiny tracking device that was surgically implanted in his shoulder when he was just a child.

Ethan reached up and touched his collarbone, his face going completely pale with horrifying realization.

We knew we had absolutely no choice but to sneak out of the heavily guarded hospital to save our daughter ourselves.

We stole a doctor's unlocked car from the underground parking garage and sped recklessly toward the dark shipping docks.

When we finally arrived, the massive steel warehouse was completely pitch black and violently battered by the wind.

A single, blinding spotlight suddenly snapped on, illuminating a small pink bassinet sitting dangerously close to the edge of the pier.
