Chapter 5 - The Brother's Betrayal

I stood up immediately, holding the car seat protectively behind my legs.

I stared at my older brother in absolute, heartbroken disbelief.

I asked him why he was doing this to his own family.

David adjusted his expensive silk tie and spoke in a cold, strictly professional tone.

He claimed he was only protecting his newborn nephew from an unstable home environment.

I angrily ripped open the manila envelope and read the official court order.

The corrupt judge had granted temporary emergency kinship placement entirely to David.

The order was based entirely on the falsified medical evidence my mother had submitted.

I suddenly realized this horrific betrayal had been a coordinated attack planned for months.

They wanted to exploit a hidden loophole in our late grandfather’s massive trust fund.

The trust stipulated that the first male heir would inherit a multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio.

If my mother and brother had legal custody of my son, they controlled all the money.

I looked David directly in the eyes and completely refused to hand over my child.

David smirked arrogantly and pulled out his cell phone.

He calmly told me that if I resisted, he would have hospital security arrest me for kidnapping.

I knew he was legally right, even if the law was being maliciously manipulated.

I had to play smart and stay out of jail if I wanted to save my family.

I carefully placed the car seat on the plastic chair and slowly backed away.

David smiled in wicked triumph as he picked up my crying child.

He coldly told me I could visit the baby on supervised weekends if I passed a drug test.

I watched him walk out of the hospital doors with my entire world.

My phone loudly buzzed in my pocket with an urgent notification from my home security system.

Someone had just manually disabled the security cameras inside our house.
