Chapter 7 - The Desperate Extraction

"Do not move another inch, Anna," Aaron ordered, his voice echoing coldly down the concrete corridor.

I clutched my stomach, screaming loudly as a second, brutal contraction ripped completely through my body.

My son was coming right now, and I was trapped underground with the monsters who wanted to harvest him.

Aaron began walking slowly toward me, completely ignoring the pool of amniotic fluid spreading across the floor.

Suddenly, a bloody hand reached out from the darkness of a nearby doorway and grabbed Aaron's ankle.

It was Dr. Reed, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to her shoulder, but still fiercely fighting.

She yanked his leg violently backward with her remaining strength, causing him to instantly lose his balance.

Aaron fell hard onto the concrete, his pistol sliding several feet away into the darkness.

"Run, Anna!" Dr. Reed screamed, coughing up blood as she desperately held onto Aaron's leg.

I forced myself up, relying purely on adrenaline to propel my exhausted, heavy body forward.

I stumbled past them, navigating the dark hallway until I reached the back emergency exit.

I burst out into the alleyway, the glaring afternoon sun temporarily blinding me as another contraction hit.

I leaned heavily against a brick wall, gasping for air when a random delivery truck slowly turned into the alley.

I waved my arms frantically, screaming for help until the startled driver slammed on his brakes.

"Please, take me to the city hospital, my husband is trying to kill me!" I begged, practically falling into the passenger seat.

The terrified driver did not ask a single question; he simply hit the gas and sped recklessly into traffic.

Every bump in the road was absolute agony as my labor progressed at a dangerously rapid pace.

We finally skidded to a halt in front of the emergency room entrance of the main city hospital.

Paramedics rushed out immediately, lifting me onto a gurney as I screamed that someone was trying to steal my baby.

"Get her into trauma bay one, right now!" a loud, authoritative voice commanded the medical team.

I looked up through my blurry, pain-filled vision and felt my heart completely shatter into a million pieces.

The doctor aggressively wheeling my gurney through the double doors was wearing a familiar name tag.

He was Aaron's senior surgical partner, Dr. Evans.

He leaned down close to my ear, pulling a syringe of heavy sedative from his coat pocket.

"Aaron called ahead, Anna, you are going straight to sleep now," Dr. Evans whispered, plunging the needle directly into my IV line.
