Chapter 4 - The Twisted Dynasty

I stared at the laboratory results, completely incapable of comprehending the sheer magnitude of the evil happening inside me.

Sylvia was not just a controlling mother-in-law; she was attempting to physically overwrite my child.

"Why would she do this?" I sobbed, clutching my stomach as another wave of pain washed over me.

Dr. Reed began prepping a cart with heavy surgical tools and bags of synthetic blood plasma.

"Sylvia has a terminal genetic condition that destroys the body's internal organs," Dr. Reed explained rapidly.

"Aaron is trying to create a perfectly compatible biological donor by mutating your baby's cellular structure in the womb."

The silver cup, the daily injections, the constant supervision, it was all a meticulously planned medical experiment.

I was never a wife to Aaron Mitchell; I was merely a heavily guarded incubator for his mother's cure.

"Is there any way to save my son?" I asked, desperation clawing at my throat.

Dr. Reed picked up a large, intimidating syringe filled with a bright blue chemical compound.

"This is an experimental enzyme inhibitor that might sever the synthetic cord's connection without causing a hemorrhage," she stated.

She approached the table, cleaning a patch of skin right above the pulsating parasitic mass.

"It is incredibly risky, Anna, but if we do nothing, your son will not survive the mutation process."

I nodded fiercely, completely willing to endure any amount of pain to save my innocent baby.

She inserted the long needle deep into my abdomen, and a localized, burning fire instantly spread through my veins.

I bit my lip so hard it bled, refusing to scream as the chemical fought against the parasite.

The ultrasound monitor showed the dark mass violently twitching as the blue enzyme began breaking down the synthetic tissue.

"It is working," Dr. Reed breathed in profound relief, watching the parasite's erratic movements slow down.

Suddenly, the bright fluorescent lights overhead flickered wildly before plunging the entire bunker into absolute darkness.

The continuous hum of the medical equipment died instantly, leaving us in a terrifying, suffocating silence.

A heavy, metallic pounding echoed from the reinforced steel door at the top of the concrete staircase.

"I know you are in there, Dr. Reed," Aaron's voice echoed through the ventilation shaft, sounding dangerously calm.

"And I have already disabled the backup generators."
