Chapter 6 - The Undercover Agent

The heavy armored SUV sped down the deserted highway as panic began to cloud my fading consciousness.
Vance had been my most trusted protector, the man who had guarded my life through countless corporate wars.
Now, I was bleeding out in the back of his hijacked vehicle, entirely at his mercy.
Nora squeezed my hand tightly, her small voice whispering that I was going to be okay.
I gritted my teeth against the pain and asked Vance how much they paid him to betray me.
Vance didn’t answer, keeping his eyes firmly fixed on the dark road ahead.
We finally pulled into an abandoned industrial warehouse district on the edge of the city.
The massive steel doors of a garage rolled open, and Vance drove us inside before cutting the engine.
He stepped out of the vehicle and opened the back door, helping me out with surprisingly gentle care.
Waiting in the center of the dimly lit warehouse was an older man in a sharp, tailored suit.
It was Victor, my former mentor who had supposedly betrayed my father’s company over a decade ago.
I braced myself for an execution, assuming Victor had orchestrated this entire nightmare for revenge.
Instead, Victor rushed forward with a high-grade medical kit, looking genuinely terrified for my life.
He ordered Vance to get me onto a sterile metal table while he prepared a blood transfusion bag.
I pushed his hands away, demanding to know what kind of sick game he was playing.
Victor looked me dead in the eyes and swore he was the only true friend I had left in this city.
He explained that Harland had been systematically draining my corporate accounts to fund a massive domestic terrorism ring.
Victor had spent years gathering evidence from the shadows to protect my father’s legacy from Harland’s treason.
Just then, a side door opened, and Elena walked into the room, looking weak but entirely lucid.
The synthetic narcotic had been neutralized by my doctor’s aggressive treatments.
I stared at my housekeeper in shock as she began speaking with the sharp, calculated tone of a seasoned professional.
Elena revealed she was not a poor, desperate maid seeking shelter for her daughter.

She was a highly trained undercover forensic accountant hired by Victor to infiltrate my mansion and find Harland’s master ledger.
And the physical key to decoding that ledger was hidden inside the very shirt Nora had tried to wash.
