Chapter 3 - The Frame Job

The piercing wail of police sirens echoed loudly through the walls of my estate.

I stared at the doctor in sheer disbelief as the blue and red lights flashed through the bedroom window.

Harland had orchestrated this entire nightmare with terrifying precision.

He wanted Elena out of the way, and he wanted her permanently discredited.

If the police found a dying woman heavily dosed with illegal narcotics in my home, my billion-dollar empire would instantly crumble.

The press would label me a cartel kingpin hiding behind a legitimate corporate facade.

I told the doctor to stabilize Elena’s heart rate by any medical means necessary.

I grabbed Nora and hid her safely inside the spacious closet, promising I would be right back.

I sprinted back down the grand staircase to intercept the authorities.

Four heavily armed police officers were already forcing their way through my front double doors.

The police captain stepped forward, flashing a search warrant with my name printed boldly on the front.

He smugly announced that they had received an anonymous tip about a massive drug trafficking operation on my property.

I tried to remain calm, demanding to call my team of corporate lawyers.

The captain laughed and ordered his men to tear the mansion apart.

They marched directly toward the servant quarters with a suspicious level of certainty.

I realized instantly that the corrupt police captain was secretly on Harland’s payroll.

Harland walked out of my study, feigning absolute shock and concern for the officers.

He pointed a treacherous finger straight down the hall toward Elena’s room.

He loudly claimed that he had suspected the housekeeper of criminal behavior for months.

I clenched my fists, restraining the primal urge to kill him right there in the foyer.

The officers kicked Elena’s door open, their weapons drawn and flashlights blazing.

The captain marched inside with a triumphant smirk, ready to make the arrest of his career.

But when he looked at the small bed in the corner of the room, his jaw dropped in confusion.

The bed was completely empty, and the window was wide open.

My doctor, Elena, and little Nora had completely vanished into the night.
