Chapter 5 - The Underboss Betrayal

Norah stared at the hitman in absolute horror.
She suddenly understood everything that was happening in the shadows of the syndicate.
Arthur was orchestrating a massive coup to overthrow Nico and take the empire for himself.
Arthur needed Norah dead so Nico would completely lose his mind and make a fatal tactical error.
The hitman tossed his cigarette onto the wooden floor and drew a long, serrated hunting knife.
He slowly walked toward her, blocking the only open door of the boxcar.
Norah did not scream or beg for her life.
She grabbed a heavy iron spike from the floorboards and swung it directly at his face.
The hitman dodged the clumsy attack and slashed her left arm with his blade.
Norah ignored the burning pain and threw her entire body weight against his chest.
The sudden impact caught the hitman off guard.
They both tumbled violently out of the open train door.
They fell through the freezing night air and plunged deep into the raging river below the tracks.
The icy water shocked Norah's system, but she fought her way to the surface.
The hitman did not resurface from the dark, violent current.
An hour later, Nico was pacing wildly in his ruined penthouse.
His encrypted phone rang, and he answered it with trembling hands.
Arthur sent him a photograph of Norah's torn and bloody sweater washed up on the riverbank.

Arthur told Nico that the rival Romano family had executed her and dumped her body in the water.
Nico dropped the phone, fell to his knees, and let out a roar of absolute agony.
