Chapter 10 - The False Victory

Nico walked into the quiet recovery room with tears streaming freely down his face.

Norah was pale and connected to several monitors, but she was breathing steadily on her own.

He gently took her cold hand and pressed it against his lips.

He confessed everything to her, admitting his terrible arrogance and his absolute foolishness.

He promised her that the empire was finished, and that they would move away to the coast to raise their child in peace.

Norah slowly opened her eyes and offered him a weak, loving smile.

She whispered that she forgave him, and that she was just happy they were finally safe.

Nico kissed her forehead gently and promised he would never let anything harm their family again.

He stepped out of the hospital room for just a moment to get her a glass of fresh water.

The heavy door clicked shut, leaving Norah completely alone in the sterile room.

Her gentle, exhausted expression vanished instantly, replaced by a look of cold, calculating absolute precision.

She reached under her hospital pillow and pulled out a highly encrypted satellite phone.

She dialed a secure international number that connected directly to the head of the global Italian Commission.

Her father answered the phone on the very first ring.

Norah spoke in fluent, flawless Italian, her voice completely devoid of any pain or weakness.

She calmly reported that Arthur was dead, the local syndicates were destroyed, and Nico was completely under her psychological control.

She smiled a wicked, triumphant smile into the dark room.

"I told you I would hand you his entire American empire on a silver platter, Father."
