Chapter 3 - The Federal Threat

Norah thrashed violently against the massive arms holding her in the dark.

The stranger dragged her backward down the concrete stairs and pinned her against the wall.

He flashed a gold badge in the dim light of the underground tunnel.

He introduced himself as Special Agent Vance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

He told her that the men searching the alley above were cartel hitmen trying to capture her for leverage.

Vance offered her a permanent spot in the witness protection program.

He promised her a new name and a safe life in exchange for her testimony against Nico.

Norah stopped struggling and stared at the federal agent.

Her heart was completely broken, but her loyalty to Nico remained a deeply ingrained habit.

She firmly told the agent that she knew absolutely nothing about any criminal operations.

Vance sighed and pulled out a digital tablet from his tactical vest.

He showed her high-resolution photos of Nico executing three men at the docks last month.

Vance warned her that Nico was a monster who would eventually kill her too.

Norah looked at the photos, recognizing the blood on Nico's collar from that exact night.

Up on the street level, Nico's black car screeched to a halt near the subway entrance.

Nico stepped out into the rain and spotted Norah's canvas duffel bag discarded near the dumpster.

He opened the bag and found a federal tracking device blinking bright red inside her clothes.
