Chapter 9 - The Turning Point
Maya and Elias dove desperately behind a large metal air conditioning unit to avoid the deadly gunfire.
The massive bullets ripped through the thin metal machinery and showered them with sharp debris.
Richard burst onto the rooftop a moment later with his remaining mercenaries flanking him.
He laughed wildly into the roaring wind caused by the spinning helicopter blades.
He slowly walked toward their hiding spot with his suppressed pistol raised confidently.
"There is absolutely nowhere left to run this time," Richard shouted over the deafening noise.
Maya knew they had only one desperate chance to survive this impossible situation.
She locked eyes with Elias and silently counted down from three with her fingers.
Elias suddenly stood up and aggressively fired his empty rifle at the approaching mercenaries.
The useless clicking sound of the empty chamber echoed weakly against the roaring wind.
A mercenary fired a single shot that struck Elias squarely in the right shoulder.
Elias collapsed violently to the hard concrete roof clutching his bleeding wound in agony.
Maya used the momentary distraction to sprint out from cover with blinding speed.
She used her intense martial arts training to slide beneath the line of enemy fire.
She swept the legs of the closest mercenary and forcefully drove her elbow into his jaw.
She grabbed his falling weapon and immediately pointed it directly at Richard's head.
Richard froze in absolute shock as he found himself staring down the barrel of a loaded gun.
He slowly raised his hands and nervously ordered his remaining men to drop their weapons.
The helicopter pilot suddenly cut the massive engine and stepped out of the cockpit holding a gold badge.
It was the brave FBI agent from the restaurant who had secretly hijacked the extraction chopper.
Dozens of heavily armed SWAT officers poured out of the back of the helicopter and secured the roof.

Richard dropped to his knees as cold steel handcuffs were aggressively slammed onto his wrists.
The long nightmare was finally over as paramedics rushed forward to save Elias's life.
