Chapter 8 - The Rooftop Chase

The luxurious study erupted into total chaos as bullets shredded the expensive furniture.

Maya grabbed the retinal key from the floor where Richard had carelessly dropped it in his panic.

She secured the device in her pocket and crawled quickly toward the shattered doorway.

Elias laid down a heavy blanket of suppressing fire to keep the mercenaries pinned behind the couches.

He tossed a heavy brass lamp through the large window to create a loud diversion.

They sprinted together down the long hallway toward the private emergency stairwell.

Alarms blared deafeningly throughout the entire skyscraper as the building went into full lockdown mode.

Richard screamed furiously at his men to kill them before they could reach the ground floor.

Maya pushed the heavy metal door open and began descending the concrete stairs at a reckless speed.

They could hear the heavy combat boots of the mercenaries echoing loudly just one floor above them.

Elias realized they would never outrun the heavily armed men all the way to the lobby.

He grabbed Maya's arm and pulled her forcefully toward the roof access door instead.

They burst out into the freezing night air just as a massive helicopter roared overhead.

The powerful spotlight from the aircraft temporarily blinded them as it hovered above the helipad.

Maya felt a massive surge of hope thinking the FBI had finally arrived to rescue them.

She waved her arms frantically to signal the pilot as the helicopter slowly descended.

The side door of the dark chopper slid open to reveal a horrifying sight.

A man holding a massive machine gun leaned out of the aircraft and took aim.

The helicopter did not belong to the police or any federal agency.

It was Richard's personal extraction team arriving to silence them permanently.

Heavy caliber bullets began tearing through the concrete roof directly toward their fragile bodies.
