Chapter 7 - The Double Cross

Arthur aimed the silver pistol directly at Diego's chest, his hands perfectly steady.
"I cannot let you hand over the company to that cartel lawyer," Arthur stated coldly.
Diego stared at his former mentor, completely disgusted by the man's blinding greed.
"You care more about stock prices than the life of an innocent three-year-old child."
Arthur shook his head, a twisted look of justification in his eyes.
"I built this empire with your father, and I will not let a maid's bastard ruin our legacy."
"I am going to lock you both in the wine cellar until Paulina's father eliminates the problem."
Marisol felt a surge of adrenaline that completely overpowered her fear.
She remembered exactly where Diego kept his emergency panic button under the kitchen counter.
She pretended to stumble, collapsing against the island and slamming her palm onto the hidden button.
A deafening security siren instantly blared throughout the massive mansion, flashing blinding red strobe lights.
The sudden noise and flashing lights caused Arthur to flinch and momentarily lower his weapon.
Diego lunged forward with explosive speed, tackling the older man directly to the marble floor.
The gun fired wildly, shattering a priceless crystal vase on the dining table.
Diego delivered a brutal punch to Arthur's jaw, knocking him completely unconscious.
He grabbed the fallen pistol and turned to Paulina, who was crying hysterically in the corner.
"If my daughter has a single scratch on her, I will come back for you," Diego promised darkly.

He grabbed Marisol's hand, and they sprinted toward the garage to get his fastest sports car.
When they burst into the dark garage, they realized all the tires on Diego's cars had been slashed.
