Chapter 3 - The Bloodline

The stuffed rabbit hit the guard squarely in the eye.
The sudden distraction allowed Diego to strike the man with a devastating right hook.
The guard collapsed to the marble floor in an unconscious heap.
Arthur stumbled backward, his arrogant facade finally slipping.
"You are assaulting my men, Diego!" Arthur yelled in panic.
Diego grabbed the second guard by the collar and shoved him out the front doors.
He slammed the heavy oak doors shut and locked them with a loud, echoing click.
"This is still my house," Diego snarled, turning his furious gaze toward Arthur and Paulina.
"And I am still the majority shareholder until the board officially meets next week."
Paulina crossed her arms, trying to maintain her haughty composure.
"You cannot prove that dirty child is even yours."
"I demand a paternity test to prove she is just trying to extort you."
Diego looked at Marisol, who simply nodded with absolute confidence.
"Fine," Diego agreed, pulling his phone from his pocket.
He called a private, highly discreet medical lab to send a courier immediately.
Within an hour, a doctor arrived and took DNA swabs from both Diego and Valentina.
The tension in the mansion was suffocating as they waited for the expedited results.
Marisol sat on the kitchen floor, holding her daughter and praying for a miracle.
Diego paced the hallway, refusing to let Arthur or Paulina out of his sight.
When the doctor finally returned with the sealed envelope, the entire room froze.
Diego ripped the paper open, his eyes scanning the medical jargon frantically.
His heart stopped beating as he read the final, bolded conclusion at the bottom of the page.

The document stated there was a zero percent chance he was the father.
Paulina smiled wickedly, stepping forward to snatch the paper from his trembling hands.
