Chapter 5 - The Glass Trap

Diego and Marisol sprinted toward the kitchen, their hearts pounding in pure terror.

The massive glass sliding door leading to the garden had been completely shattered.

Cold wind blew into the mansion, sweeping across the empty pink blanket on the floor.

Valentina was gone.

Marisol collapsed to her knees, screaming her daughter's name into the empty yard.

Diego spun around, his eyes blazing with a murderous rage as he looked at Arthur.

"Where is she?" Diego roared, grabbing the older man by his expensive silk tie.

Arthur raised his hands defensively, his face pale with genuine shock.

"I swear to you, I had absolutely nothing to do with this!"

Paulina backed away slowly, her phone glowing brightly in her trembling hand.

Diego noticed her suspicious movement and snatched the device from her grip.

On the screen was a sent text message to her father, a notorious and ruthless cartel lawyer.

The message read: "Take the kid, she is ruining everything."

Diego threw the phone against the wall, shattering it into a hundred pieces.

"You actually brought your father's violent thugs into my home?" Diego yelled.

Paulina lifted her chin, trying to hide her mounting fear behind a mask of arrogance.

"My family will not let you humiliate me by breaking this engagement."

"You will sign over your company to us, or you will never see that little brat again."

Marisol stood up from the shattered glass, grabbing a heavy kitchen knife from the counter.

She walked directly up to Paulina, pressing the cold steel against the wealthy woman's neck.

"Tell them to bring my daughter back right now," Marisol whispered with lethal intent.
