Chapter 6 - The Ransom Demand

Paulina's eyes widened in absolute terror as the cold blade pressed against her throat.

She had always viewed Marisol as a weak, submissive maid who would never fight back.

"Are you crazy?" Paulina gasped, her breathing turning shallow and rapid.

Diego gently placed his hand over Marisol's trembling fingers, carefully lowering the knife.

"We are not going to become murderers, Marisol," Diego said softly.

He turned his attention back to the terrified woman cowering against the kitchen island.

"Call your father from the house phone and put it on speaker," Diego commanded.

Paulina quickly dialed the number, her hands shaking violently under Diego's intense glare.

A deep, raspy voice answered on the second ring.

"The package is secured, Paulina," her father stated coldly.

"If Villaseñor wants the girl back, he needs to come to the old Santa Fe warehouse alone."

"He must bring the bearer bonds for his entire corporate shareholding."

Diego did not hesitate for a single second.

"I will be there in exactly thirty minutes," Diego promised into the receiver.

The line went dead, leaving a suffocating silence in the shattered kitchen.

Diego walked over to his hidden floor safe and began pulling out stacks of legal documents.

Marisol grabbed his arm, her eyes filled with desperate, agonizing tears.

"You are really going to give up your entire billionaire empire for a child you just met?"

Diego looked at her, his expression filled with a profound, unconditional love.
