Chapter 7 - The Hostage Chapel

The hitman locked the heavy door of the sound booth, trapping me inside with him.
He grabbed the public address microphone from the control board and clicked it on.
"Nobody moves, or the bride and groom get a bullet in their heads!" his voice boomed over the speakers.
The panic in the sanctuary instantly turned into a terrified, suffocating silence.
I watched through the sound booth window as Adrian cowers behind the marble altar, using Vanessa as a human shield.
The hitman pressed the cold barrel of his revolver against my temple.
He dragged me out of the sound booth and forced me down the spiral staircase toward the altar.
The guests wept quietly in their pews as we marched down the center aisle.
"Adrian, your lovely new wife owes me two million dollars, and I want it right now," the hitman demanded.
Adrian peered out from behind the altar, his eyes darting frantically around the room.
He saw me standing there with a gun to my head, and his cowardly survival instinct took over.
"I don't have the money, but she does!" Adrian screamed, pointing a shaking finger directly at me.
"My ex-wife is the cartel accountant, she has all the offshore bank codes memorized!"

He was willing to serve me to a murderous hitman just to save his own pathetic life.
"Take her and let me go!" Adrian begged, shoving Vanessa forcefully onto the marble floor.
