Chapter 2 - The Bridal Suite

The revelation hit me like a physical blow to the chest.

Adrian had deliberately framed me as the primary money launderer for a ruthless criminal syndicate.

If the cartel discovered the missing money, they would come hunting for me, not him.

I had to clear my name and expose his crimes today, or I would not survive the week.

Elena and I arrived at Saint Bartholomew’s Chapel just as the string quartet began to play.

I wore a stunning crimson dress, a bold contrast to the obedient, muted colors Adrian used to force me into.

Before taking my seat in the sanctuary, I slipped down the hallway toward the bridal suite.

I pushed the heavy wooden door open and found Vanessa admiring herself in a full-length mirror.

She turned around, her smug smile faltering for a fraction of a second.

"I can't believe you actually showed up," Vanessa sneered, touching the diamond earrings she had stolen from me.

I told her I wouldn't miss the chance to see a thief wear my hand-me-downs.

Vanessa let out a cold, mocking laugh and took a step closer to me.

"You really think you are so clever, don't you?" she asked.

She reached into her designer makeup bag and pulled out a folded legal document.

"Adrian didn't invite you here today to mock you," Vanessa whispered maliciously.

"He took out a five-million-dollar life insurance policy on you before the divorce, and you aren't leaving this chapel alive."
