Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary

My blood ran cold as I stared at the insurance policy bearing my forged signature.
Adrian was planning to have me murdered at his own wedding to collect the payout and silence me forever.
I backed out of the bridal suite, my heart hammering violently against my ribs.
I found Elena waiting near the back pews of the grand, vaulted sanctuary.
I quickly explained Adrian's murderous plot, and she immediately reached for her phone to call the authorities.
"We don't need the police yet, we need his confession playing over these speakers," I told her.
I had spent the last six months of my marriage secretly recording Adrian's abusive threats and financial boasts.
I pulled out my smartphone and accessed the chapel's wireless audio network, which I knew well from planning my own wedding here.
I selected the compiled audio file that would expose every single one of his crimes to his wealthy guests.
Down the aisle, Adrian stood at the altar looking like a polished prince.
He spotted me in my crimson dress, and a wicked, arrogant smirk spread across his face.
He mouthed the words, "Still desperate for my attention?"
I smiled back, holding my phone high so he could see it, and firmly pressed the play button.
Nothing happened.

The screen of my phone suddenly glitched, turning completely black.
A flashing red skull icon appeared on my display, accompanied by a message that said, "Files Deleted."
