Chapter 5 - The Sound Booth

I took a step backward, my mind racing as the security guard raised his silenced weapon.

There was nowhere to run in the cramped, dimly lit sound booth.

I looked frantically around the room and noticed the chapel's massive stage lighting control board.

As the guard stepped forward to grab me, I slammed my hand down on the master override switch.

A blinding array of theatrical spotlights instantly flashed directly into the guard's face.

He screamed in pain, dropping his gun and clutching his burned eyes.

I dove past his massive frame and scrambled toward the unconscious technician on the floor.

I dug my hand into the old man's jacket pocket and pulled out the small, silver USB drive.

I scrambled over to the main audio computer and shoved the drive into the port.

The guard was blindly swinging his fists, trying to find me in the chaotic glare of the lights.

I quickly bypassed the security prompt and clicked on the only audio file saved on the drive.

I cranked the master volume slider to the absolute maximum level and hit play.

The chapel's massive surround-sound speakers crackled to life with deafening volume.

But the voice that echoed through the sanctuary was not Adrian's voice.

It was Vanessa's voice, caught on tape offering a hitman two million dollars to assassinate Adrian right after they said their vows.
