Chapter 6 - The Federal Agent

The delivery truck rumbled violently down the highway, plunging Clara and Leo into absolute, terrifying darkness.
Leo pounded his fists furiously against the heavy steel walls, screaming for the treacherous driver to let them out.
Clara huddled in the freezing corner, her heart breaking as she realized they had blindly walked into another trap.
"He recognized my face from the news, Leo," Clara whispered softly, the devastating reality sinking in.
"My father probably placed a massive, undeniable bounty on my safe return."
After an agonizing hour of driving, the truck finally lurched to a sudden, violent stop.
The heavy cargo doors swung open, blinding them entirely with the harsh glare of tactical flashlights.
Instead of Richard Sterling’s private guards, a squad of men wearing official FBI windbreakers surrounded the back of the truck.
A tall, authoritative federal agent stepped forward, flashing a shiny gold badge in the moonlight.
"Clara Sterling, you are perfectly safe now, we have been actively tracking your father's illegal communications for months," the agent stated firmly.
Leo let out a massive sigh of relief, helping Clara carefully step down from the elevated cargo bay.
The federal agents swiftly arrested the treacherous truck driver, ignoring his frantic pleas for the promised reward money.
The lead agent gently guided Clara and Leo into the warm, comfortable back seat of a highly armored black SUV.
"We are taking you directly to a secure federal safehouse where you can finally testify against Richard," the agent promised warmly.
Clara gratefully accepted a plastic bottle of water from the agent, her hands still shaking from the freezing cold.
As the agent handed her the bottle, his dark uniform sleeve pulled back slightly to reveal his wrist.
Clara froze completely, her blood turning to absolute ice in her veins.

Tattooed clearly on the agent's wrist was the distinct, twisted logo of the Sterling Hope Foundation.
She looked up slowly, realizing they were driving away from the city and heading directly toward a private, isolated airplane hangar.
