Chapter 4 - The Fake Clinic

The terrifying descent down the side of the Plaza Hotel left Clara completely breathless and dizzy.
Leo expertly guided them into the dark, secluded alleyway where a beat-up silver sedan was waiting with the engine running.
Clara collapsed into the passenger seat, her exhausted legs throbbing with intense, beautiful pain.
"Why are you helping me, Leo?" Clara finally asked as they sped away from the flashing police lights of the hotel.
Leo gripped the steering wheel tightly, his jaw clenching as he stared out at the dark, winding highway.
"Because my father was the original surgeon who treated you after your car crash three years ago," Leo revealed bitterly.
"He discovered your spine was healing perfectly, but Richard paid heavily to ruin his career and forced him to fake his own suicide."
Clara felt a sickening wave of horror wash over her as the true, monstrous depths of her father’s deception were revealed.
Before she could process the heartbreaking truth, the engine of the silver sedan violently sputtered and died.
Leo aggressively pumped the gas pedal, but the car slowly coasted to a complete stop on the desolate, empty road.
A massive, matte-black armored SUV pulled up silently behind them, boxing them in completely.
Four men in tactical medical scrubs stepped out of the SUV, holding heavy stun batons that crackled with blue electricity.
They smashed the windows of the sedan, dragging a fighting, screaming Leo out onto the cold asphalt.
A woman with a cold, pristine smile stepped out of the SUV and walked directly toward Clara's door.
"It is time to go to your new rehabilitation clinic, Clara," the woman said, plunging a sedative needle directly into Clara's arm.
Clara’s vision blurred rapidly, the dark trees spinning wildly as her newly awakened body succumbed to the powerful drug.
When Clara finally opened her heavy eyes, she was strapped securely to a cold metal bed in a blindingly white room.

The woman with the pristine smile stood over her, holding a terrifying surgical drill.
"Your father sends his regards, Clara, and he requested a permanent surgical solution to your little walking problem."
