Chapter 7 - The Syndicate Base

Mark aggressively dragged me out of the helicopter by my handcuffed wrists.

A dozen armed Syndicate guards instantly surrounded my mother, stripping her of all her weapons.

They forced us into a sleek, glass elevator that plummeted deep underground.

The doors hissed open to reveal a massive, state-of-the-art biological research laboratory.

Scientists in white hazmat suits were moving hurriedly between complex chemical stations.

Mark pushed us roughly down a long, sterile white corridor.

We were forced into a massive circular room with a surgical table sitting precisely in the center.

An older man wearing a perfectly tailored black suit was waiting for us.

He had cold, calculating gray eyes and a silver cane resting comfortably in his hands.

"Welcome home, Subject Zero," the Director said with a chilling, polite smile.

He looked at my mother and shook his head in absolute disgust.

"You caused a lot of trouble for a piece of stolen property, Helen."

My mother spat a mouthful of blood directly onto his expensive leather shoes.

The Director calmly wiped his shoe with a handkerchief and signaled to the guards.

They violently slammed my mother against the wall and chained her arms to heavy steel rings.

Mark grabbed me by the shoulders and forcefully strapped me face-down onto the cold surgical table.

"What are you going to do to me?" I screamed, fighting helplessly against the leather restraints.

The Director walked over and gently stroked my hair like a creepy, affectionate grandfather.

"Your bone marrow holds the key to the most profitable biological weapon in human history," he explained.

"Unfortunately, the extraction process is going to be entirely fatal."

The heavy metal doors of the surgical suite slid open again.

The exact same doctor who had interrogated my mother at the hospital walked into the room.

He was wearing a sterile surgical gown and a plastic face shield.

He walked over to the medical tray and picked up a terrifyingly large, motorized bone saw.

He flipped the switch, and the loud, high-pitched whining of the jagged blade filled the room.

My mother screamed and thrashed wildly against her heavy steel chains.

The doctor smiled behind his mask and slowly lowered the spinning blade toward my exposed spine.

Right before the metal touched my skin, the entire facility plunged into total darkness.
