Chapter 8 - The Shadow in the Rain

The police cruiser sped aggressively down the dark, rain-slicked highway, completely ignoring the speed limit.
I hugged Sofia tightly to my chest, thanking God that we had finally found safety in the storm.
I frantically repeated Alejandro's name and address, begging the officer to call for immediate federal backup.
The uniformed officer completely ignored my desperate pleas and stared blankly at the dark road ahead.
I slowly began to notice that the police radio on his dashboard was completely turned off and entirely silent.
I looked out the heavily tinted window and realized with absolute dread that we were heading away from the city.
We were driving rapidly toward a deserted, privately owned industrial airfield located on the dark outskirts of town.
I banged my fists aggressively against the thick plexiglass divider, screaming at the officer to stop the car immediately.
The officer slowly looked up into the rearview mirror, finally revealing his cold, completely indifferent eyes.
He softly told me that a billionaire's money could buy absolutely anything, including the absolute loyalty of the local police.
My blood ran entirely cold as I realized we had just jumped directly from the frying pan into the blazing fire.
Alejandro had perfectly completely insulated his illegal operation by bribing the authorities who were supposed to protect us.
I looked desperately around the back of the cruiser for any possible weapon or means of escape.
The rear doors were completely stripped of their interior handles, transforming the backseat into an inescapable steel cage.
The cruiser violently bumped over a set of train tracks and approached the massive steel gates of the dark airfield.
A sleek, unmarked black jet was sitting completely idle on the wet runway, its heavy engines roaring loudly in the night.
The corrupt officer parked the cruiser near the jet and slowly unbuckled his seatbelt with a heavy sigh.
He pulled a dark metal baton from his utility belt and turned around to face me through the thick divider.
He warned me that if I made a single sound, he would heavily sedate my daughter before putting her on the plane.
May you like
I held Sofia fiercely, completely refusing to let the terrifying monsters take my beautiful child away from me.
As the officer reached for the rear door handle, a massive black SUV suddenly violently rammed into the side of the police cruiser.
