Chapter 6 - The Empty House

I stood entirely paralyzed in the center of Sofia's empty bedroom.
The cold rain poured heavily through the open window, soaking the pink carpet and her discarded stuffed bunny.
I screamed her name frantically, tearing through the closets and checking under the bed.
The entire house was completely silent, completely devoid of my daughter's gentle presence.
I rushed back out into the hallway, my heart breaking into a million jagged pieces of pure despair.
As I reached the top of the stairs, I heard the heavy front door suddenly creak open.
A tall, heavily built stranger wearing a dark trench coat stepped casually into my living room.
He completely ignored the pouring rain and looked around the quiet house with absolute annoyance.
He called out Alejandro's name, angrily complaining that the transportation van was waiting outside.
This man was Alejandro's partner, arriving early to collect the innocent merchandise for the international buyer.
I quietly crept into the kitchen and grabbed the largest, sharpest butcher knife from the wooden block.
I gripped the handle tightly, fully prepared to slaughter anyone who stood between me and my child.
I stepped boldly out into the living room, pointing the bloody knife directly at the stranger's chest.
I fiercely demanded to know exactly where they had taken my five-year-old daughter.
The tall man looked at me with a cold, terrifying amusement and slowly reached into his dark coat.
He pulled out a heavy, silenced pistol and aimed it squarely at my forehead.
He laughed cruelly and told me that I was making a terrible mistake by interfering with professional business.
He confidently placed his finger on the trigger, completely ready to end my life without a second thought.
I braced myself for the fatal gunshot, completely refusing to close my eyes or look away from his evil face.

Suddenly, a massive, bloody figure launched aggressively out of the hallway shadows and violently tackled the gunman.
It was Alejandro, heavily bleeding from his head wound, fighting his own partner like a rabid animal.
