Chapter 4 - The Confrontation

Alejandro casually tossed his heavy keys onto the desk and walked slowly toward me.

The gentle, soft-spoken man I had deeply loved for years completely vanished before my eyes.

His face was a cold, emotionless mask of pure, calculated evil.

I gripped the brass letter opener tightly in my trembling hand and backed away until I hit the bookshelf.

He laughed cruelly and told me that fighting back would only make this much more painful for Sofia.

I screamed at him, demanding to know exactly what he was planning to do with my innocent daughter.

He proudly confessed that he worked for an elite syndicate that procured highly specific children for wealthy clients.

A billionaire's daughter desperately needed an illegal organ transplant, and Sofia was the absolute perfect genetic match.

The horrifying reality of his words struck me like a physical blow to the chest.

He had spent years building a fake family just to harvest my child like a medical product.

I lunged forward blindly, swinging the brass letter opener directly at his throat.

He sidestepped my desperate attack with terrifying speed and grabbed my wrist with bone-crushing force.

He twisted my arm violently behind my back, forcing a scream of agony from my lungs.

He slammed my face hard against the wooden desk, pinning me down entirely.

He leaned in close and whispered that he was going to enjoy making me disappear.

He dragged me forcefully out of the office and threw me down the steep wooden stairs leading to the basement.

I tumbled violently into the darkness, striking my head hard against the cold concrete floor.

The heavy basement door slammed shut above me, followed by the terrifying click of an iron padlock.

I was completely alone in the pitch-black basement, bleeding and utterly defenseless.

I forced myself to sit up, ignoring the blinding pain radiating through my skull.

I knew that Alejandro would be coming back down to finish the job once he secured Sofia.

I desperately crawled across the damp floor, searching blindly for anything I could use to defend myself.

My hands brushed against a loose, heavy iron pipe resting near the ancient water heater.

I gripped the cold metal tightly and dragged myself into the darkest corner of the shadows.

I heard the heavy padlock click open at the top of the stairs, and a sliver of light pierced the darkness.
