Chapter 8 - The Freezing Point

The temperature inside the morgue dropped so fast that Claire could actually see her breath turning into thick white mist.

Frost began to rapidly form on the stainless steel autopsy tables and the glass doors of the specimen cabinets.

Claire shivered violently, her previously poisoned body unable to regulate its core temperature properly.

Noah desperately tried to pry the heavy electronic doors apart with his bare hands, but the magnetic lock was incredibly strong.

"We are going to freeze to death in a room meant for dead bodies," Claire cried as she huddled into a ball on the floor.

Noah refused to give up, quickly scanning the room for anything that could save their lives.

He spotted a heavy portable defibrillator resting on a medical cart in the far corner of the room.

He grabbed the machine and violently ripped the two electrical paddles from their thick rubber cords.

Noah exposed the raw, live copper wires and jammed them directly into the electronic control panel of the sealed door.

He cranked the defibrillator to its absolute maximum voltage setting and pressed the shock button.

A massive surge of bright blue electricity exploded through the panel, completely frying the magnetic locking mechanism.

The heavy doors hissed loudly and slid open, releasing them into the warm, glorious air of the hospital hallway.

They sprinted out of the building just as the morning sun began to rise over the city skyline.

It was officially Claire's twenty-fifth birthday, and she had survived the long, terrifying night.

But as they plugged the flash drive into a stolen laptop in a nearby coffee shop, a chilling video file automatically began to play.

The video clearly showed Claire's own biological father, weeks before his natural death, handing Daniel the poison and ordering him to execute the fake death plan.
