Chapter 6 - The Chemical Trap

The heavy click of the deadbolt echoing from the outside made Noah's blood run completely cold.

He rushed to the steel door and pulled on the handle with all his might, but it refused to budge.

Claire panicked as she realized Sarah had played them perfectly to secure her own share of the inheritance.

Through the high, barred basement windows, they could see the heavy boots of armed mercenaries surrounding the building.

The sound of a powerful blowtorch hissed to life as the hitmen began cutting through the reinforced door hinges.

"We have less than two minutes before they breach the room," Noah said, his eyes scanning the medical supplies.

He grabbed several large bottles of highly flammable rubbing alcohol and pure oxygen tanks.

He quickly instructed Claire to climb onto a stack of wooden crates directly beneath the old ventilation shaft in the ceiling.

Noah poured the chemicals across the floor right in front of the melting steel door.

As the heavy door finally crashed inward, five armed men in tactical gear stepped into the room.

Noah instantly struck a match and tossed it directly into the puddle of chemical fluids.

A massive wall of blinding white fire erupted, instantly separating them from the terrified mercenaries.

The fire triggered the oxygen tanks, creating a localized explosion that shattered the basement windows.

Noah grabbed Claire's hand and hoisted her up into the dusty ventilation shaft just as the room filled with thick smoke.

They crawled blindly through the narrow metal tunnel until they reached the roof of the apartment building.

They looked down at the alley and saw Sarah lying unconscious on the pavement, having been accidentally struck by a piece of flying shrapnel from her own husband's trap.
