Chapter 4 - The Safe House

Noah screamed at the driver to ram through the gap between the two SUVs.

The metal crushed and screeched as their car forced its way through the blockade, sparks flying everywhere.

They managed to escape the ambush, but their vehicle was severely damaged and leaking dark oil.

They abandoned the car in a dark, empty alleyway on the bad side of town.

Noah carried Claire's limp body through the pouring rain until they reached a hidden basement apartment.

It was an illegal underground clinic where Noah used to patch up people who could not go to a real hospital.

He laid Claire on a metal examination table and quickly hooked her up to a heart monitor.

The steady, slow beep confirmed that the paralyzing agent was aggressively shutting down her vital organs again.

Noah sprinted to a glass medical cabinet and began mixing a desperate cocktail of adrenaline and chemical binders.

He knew that if he did not administer the correct dosage, the antidote itself would stop her heart entirely.

He carefully injected the bright blue liquid directly into her intravenous line.

For ten agonizing minutes, the heart monitor flatlined, filling the basement with a piercing alarm.

Then, Claire suddenly gasped loudly, her eyes snapping open as she sucked in a massive breath of air.

She sat up on the table, drenched in cold sweat but fully alive and moving.

Before they could celebrate the miracle, a loud, heavy knock echoed from the reinforced steel door.

A woman's voice called out from the other side, claiming she was Daniel's wife and that she wanted to help them.
