Chapter 9 - The Corrupt Captain
The flashing red and blue lights illuminated the destroyed shipping yard in a blinding glare.
Dozens of heavily armed police officers raised their weapons and aimed directly at Dominic.
A tall, incredibly arrogant police captain stepped out of an unmarked vehicle.
Dominic instantly recognized the man as Captain Miller, a corrupt officer entirely on the Falcone payroll.
Miller had clearly come to finish the job that Marcus had spectacularly failed to do.
Miller loudly announced that Dominic was under arrest for domestic terrorism and mass murder.
He ordered his men to shoot Dominic on sight if he made a single sudden movement.
Enzo stepped forward, placing his own body protectively in front of Dominic and Sophia.
He told Miller that they had undeniable proof of the captain's massive corruption and bribery.
Miller simply laughed, knowing his officers were completely loyal to the highest bidder.
He raised his own service weapon, aiming it squarely at Dominic's head.
He stated that dead men could not testify in any court of law.
Dominic realized they were entirely out of options and completely trapped.
He squeezed Sophia's hand tightly, silently telling her to close her eyes and hold onto Lily.
Before Miller could pull the trigger, a massive fleet of black SUVs suddenly swarmed the docks.
They smashed aggressively through the police barricades, sending officers scattering in absolute panic.
The SUVs belonged to the combined forces of the five most powerful mafia families in New York.
They had completely turned against the Falcones after learning about the cowardly bombing.
Hundreds of armed men stepped out, aiming high-powered rifles directly at the corrupt police force.
Miller's confident smirk instantly vanished, completely replaced by pure, unadulterated terror.
The leaders of the families ordered the corrupt captain to drop his weapon immediately and leave the docks.
Miller threw his gun onto the wet pavement and ordered his terrified officers to retreat instantly.
Dominic watched the police cars speed away, realizing he had finally won the absolute, final war.
