Chapter 4 - The Forest Ambush

The windows of the small cabin suddenly shattered inward under a hail of automatic gunfire.

Dominic tackled Sophia to the wooden floorboards as bullets tore through the walls.

He grabbed a heavy assault rifle from a hidden compartment beneath the fireplace.

He ordered Sophia to take Lily and crawl into the cast-iron bathtub in the bathroom.

Dominic kicked the front door open and charged out into the freezing forest.

He moved through the trees like a deadly, completely silent shadow.

He eliminated three Falcone mercenaries before they even knew he was outside.

The dark woods were illuminated entirely by the muzzle flashes of aggressive crossfire.

Dominic fought with a desperate, unmatched ferocity he had not felt in years.

He was no longer fighting for territory or money.

He was fighting to protect the only two people who had ever truly cared about him.

He flanked the remaining mercenaries and neutralized them with precise, calculated shots.

The forest fell silent except for the howling wind and the crunching of snow.

Dominic ran back into the shattered cabin to check on his new family.

Sophia and Lily were absolutely safe inside the heavy iron tub.

Sophia looked at him, completely terrified by the lethal violence he had just unleashed.

Dominic expected her to scream or call him a monster.

Instead, she stood up and wrapped her arms tightly around his bloody neck.

She thanked him for saving their lives.

Dominic felt his cold heart beat with genuine, overwhelming love for this woman.

They quickly packed their meager supplies and hiked miles to a secondary extraction point.

Dominic stole an old pickup truck from a deserted logging camp.

They drove south toward the city to take the fight directly to Marcus Falcone.

Dominic pulled over at a roadside diner to make a secure phone call on a burner device.

He called his oldest mentor, a retired mob boss named Carlo, to ask for sanctuary.

Carlo agreed to hide Sophia and Lily in his heavily fortified private estate.

They arrived at Carlo's mansion just as the sun began to rise over the skyline.

Carlo welcomed them warmly and promised Dominic that his family would be perfectly safe.

Dominic kissed Sophia goodbye and promised to return before midnight.

As Dominic drove away, he looked in his rearview mirror and saw Carlo locking the heavy iron gates.

He also saw Marcus Falcone stepping out from the shadows of Carlo's front porch.
