Chapter 8 - The Strobe Light

I stood just two feet away from Richard on the narrow, dangerous catwalk.
He greedily reviewed the trust documents, checking to ensure my signature was valid.
"You should have just shared the money, Camila," Richard scolded me without looking up.
"My mother worked her entire life for that money, and it belongs to her legacy," I stated firmly.
I tightly gripped the sleek metal pen the FBI agent had secretly slipped into my palm.
I pressed my thumb hard against the hidden trigger button on the top.
A blinding, high-frequency strobe light erupted directly into Richard's eyes.
He screamed in sudden agony, completely blinded and disoriented by the intense tactical beam.
He stumbled backward, desperately clutching his eyes and dropping the trust documents over the edge of the railing.
He wildly swung his other hand, accidentally pressing the trigger on the explosive detonator.
A deafening click echoed through the warehouse, but absolutely nothing exploded.
The SWAT team had already activated a massive electronic frequency jammer outside the building.
Realizing his explosives were useless and his vision was gone, Richard panicked and lunged toward me.
He grabbed my jacket, trying to pull me over the railing with him in a final act of revenge.
I planted my feet firmly and drove my knee directly into his stomach with all my strength.
Richard let go of my jacket, slipping on the slick metal grating of the catwalk.
He tumbled backward over the railing, falling twenty feet and crashing heavily onto a stack of cardboard boxes below.
He groaned in pain as SWAT officers immediately swarmed him, pinning him to the concrete floor.
I leaned against the railing, gasping for air as the adrenaline slowly began to leave my body.
The SWAT commander gave the all-clear signal, securing the building entirely.
Marcus and Sebastian were shoved forcefully into the back of a federal transport van.
They would all be facing decades in federal prison for conspiracy, extortion, and domestic terrorism.

The nightmare was finally over, and my family's legacy was completely safe.
I slowly walked down the metal stairs, ready to finally start my new life.
