Chapter 5 - The Warehouse

I froze completely, staring down the dark barrel of Sebastian's weapon.

"You are holding a gun on your own sister-in-law?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

"I have gambling debts that will get me killed if I do not pay them by tomorrow," Sebastian rationalized.

He drove us deep into the abandoned industrial district on the edge of the city.

He pulled the car into a massive, decaying warehouse and cut the engine.

Marcus and Beatrice were already waiting inside, standing next to a folding table covered in legal documents.

Two massive men in dark suits stood behind them, clearly the loan sharks Marcus had hired.

"I told you she would run exactly like a scared little rabbit," Marcus laughed.

Sebastian forced me out of the car and shoved me toward the folding table.

Beatrice crossed her arms and looked at me with absolute, sickening disgust.

"Sign the trust release forms right now, Camila, or these gentlemen will make you regret it," Beatrice threatened.

I looked at the complex legal documents resting on the cold metal table.

Marcus handed me a blue ink pen and tapped the signature line impatiently.

"You sign this, the trust transfers to my name, and you can walk away with your life," Marcus promised.

I looked at the men in the dark suits, calculating my incredibly slim odds of survival.

"If I sign this, you will just kill me anyway to silence the only witness," I stated bravely.

Marcus sighed heavily, rubbing his temples as if I were simply being a stubborn child.

"You always were too smart for your own good, Camila," Marcus sneered.

He gave a slight nod to the largest loan shark standing in the shadows.

The massive man stepped forward and pulled a heavy metal crowbar from his jacket.

"Break her right hand first, so she has to sign the document with her left," Marcus ordered coldly.

Before the man could swing the crowbar, the heavy steel doors of the warehouse suddenly exploded off their hinges.
