Chapter 4 - The Traitor in the Dark

I screamed in terror and kicked wildly at the hand gripping my ankle.

"Camila, stop kicking, it is me!" a familiar voice desperately whispered.

I looked down and saw Sebastian, my worthless brother-in-law, standing on the edge of the garage roof.

"Let go of me, you piece of garbage!" I yelled, pulling my leg free.

"I came to help you escape!" Sebastian pleaded, holding his hands up in surrender.

"Marcus and my mother went completely crazy, and I never wanted anyone to get hurt."

I stared at him, absolutely refusing to believe a single word coming from his mouth.

"You are the reason these men are in my house!" I reminded him angrily.

"I know, and I am incredibly sorry, but I can get you out of here safely right now," Sebastian insisted.

He pointed toward his rusty sedan parked secretly in the alleyway behind our fence.

"Climb down the trellis and get into my car," he instructed urgently.

I heard the heavy oak door of my bedroom begin to splinter and crack under the intruder's violent kicks.

I had no other choice but to trust the man who started this entire disaster.

I carefully climbed down the wooden trellis and dropped onto the soft grass of the backyard.

Sebastian climbed down right behind me and guided me swiftly through the back gate.

We jumped into his car, and he immediately sped away into the early morning fog.

I slumped into the passenger seat, gasping for air as we left my neighborhood behind.

"Thank you, Sebastian," I whispered, finally feeling a tiny sliver of hope.

Sebastian kept his eyes fixed strictly on the dark road ahead.

"Do not thank me yet, Camila," he said in a strange, hollow tone.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a suppressed handgun, aiming it directly at my chest.

"Marcus promised me one million dollars if I brought you to the warehouse alive."
