Chapter 8 - The Turning Point

Parker swung the hunting knife with lethal, terrifying speed directly toward my chest.
I dodged frantically to the side, grabbing a handful of loose dirt from the cabin floor.
I threw the blinding dirt directly into his eyes, causing him to roar in sudden, intense pain.
He slashed the air wildly, completely blinded and stumbling backward toward the broken doorway.
I kicked his knee with all my remaining strength, sending him crashing heavily to the wooden floor.
Suddenly, the blinding flash of red and blue sirens pierced beautifully through the dark forest canopy.
The local county sheriff marched aggressively into the cabin with his service weapon drawn and ready.
I breathed a massive sigh of overwhelming relief, believing we were finally saved from this nightmare.
I rushed toward the officer and handed him Ellie's phone, frantically explaining the entire murder plot.
The sheriff looked at the digital evidence on the glowing screen with a cold, entirely blank expression.
He did not call for backup, nor did he attempt to arrest the man bleeding on the floor.
He simply smiled a cruel, sinister smile and handed the phone directly back to Parker.
The sheriff pulled a heavy pair of metal handcuffs from his tactical duty belt.

He informed me in a cold, authoritative voice that I was currently under arrest.
He falsely claimed that I was being charged with the violent attempted murder of my loving husband.
