Chapter 8 - The Birth

The razor-sharp scalpel sliced deeply across my left shoulder, sending a blinding wave of hot pain through my arm.
I completely ignored the blood pouring rapidly down my sleeve and tackled Julian backward.
He stumbled clumsily over a discarded medical stool and crashed heavily onto the tile floor.
The black detonator skittered rapidly across the smooth floor, sliding completely under the operating table.
"Sarah, deliver the baby right now!" I screamed as I scrambled desperately toward the plastic explosive switch.
Julian lunged forward aggressively and grabbed me violently by my bleeding shoulder.
He threw me forcefully into the heavy glass supply cabinet, shattering the thick panes completely.
"I am going to carve you into pieces before I finish her off!" Julian roared in pure, unhinged fury.
He advanced on me with the bloody scalpel, his eyes completely hollow and murderous.
Behind him, Chloe was screaming in sheer agony as her active labor reached its terrifying peak.
Sarah was working frantically, coaching Chloe through the intense contractions without any pain medication.
I grabbed a heavy glass jar filled with sterile alcohol from the broken cabinet shelf.
As Julian lunged directly at my throat, I smashed the thick jar violently against the side of his head.
The heavy impact stunned him momentarily, causing him to drop the sharp scalpel to the floor.
I kicked the weapon forcefully under a metal cabinet where he could absolutely never reach it.
Julian roared aggressively and wrapped his massive hands completely around my throat.
He squeezed with terrifying strength, cutting off my oxygen supply entirely.
Black spots began dancing wildly in my vision as I desperately clawed at his handsome face.
"Push, Chloe, push with everything you have!" Sarah screamed loudly in the background.
A second later, the most beautiful, piercing cry of a newborn baby echoed through the bloody room.
Julian froze completely, his tight grip loosening slightly in pure, absolute shock.

He turned his head slowly to look at the tiny, screaming infant Sarah was holding gently in her arms.
In that singular moment of absolute distraction, the heavy metal doors of the OR were violently blown off their hinges.
