Chapter 9 - The Wiretap

The tiny red light was a federal wiretap transmitter that Richard had completely failed to notice.
Thomas had gone directly to the FBI the moment Richard ordered him to commit murder.
Every single word of Richard's confession, including the murder he just committed, had been broadcast live to the authorities.
I looked up at Richard and smiled for the first time all night.
"You are going to spend the rest of your miserable life in a federal prison," I whispered.
Richard realized his catastrophic mistake and went absolutely mad with violent rage.
He threw the gun aside and lunged at my throat with his bare hands.
We crashed through the rotting wooden floorboards, tumbling out onto the crumbling stone balcony.
A brutal struggle ensued in the freezing rain as I fought desperately for my life.
Richard was incredibly strong, and he managed to overpower me near the broken glass railing.
He grabbed me by the shoulders and pushed me violently over the steep edge.
I screamed as I fell, desperately grabbing onto the sleeve of his expensive suit jacket.
I dangled hundreds of feet in the air, the cold wind whipping violently around my face.

Richard looked down at me with pure hatred and began to pull his arm away.
The fabric of his sleeve slowly began to rip under my weight.
