"David, open this door right now!" I demanded at the top of my lungs.
Eleanor sat perfectly still, refusing to believe that the man who had saved her would betray us.
A small video monitor on the wall flickered to life, showing the hallway directly outside our room.
David was standing in front of the door, loading a heavy assault rifle with a grim expression.
"I am sorry, Hannah, but Richard's mercenary squad just breached the upper levels," David's voice echoed through the intercom.
"I locked you in the vault to protect you, because I am not letting them take you again."
We watched the screen in absolute horror as a dozen heavily armed men flooded into the hallway.
David fought like a wild animal, firing his weapon and taking down three men in the first few seconds.
The narrow corridor became a chaotic warzone of flying bullets and shattered concrete.
David took a bullet to the shoulder but managed to neutralize the remaining attackers.
He slumped against the wall, bleeding heavily and gasping for air.
Just as we thought the nightmare was over, the video feed abruptly cut to static.
