Chapter 8 - The Mastermind
Damian pressed his hand against the scanner out of pure desperation.
The machine beeped green and the heavy door hissed open.
We stepped into a pristine underground tunnel.
It was completely untouched by the fire above.
Damian realized his father had built this escape route years ago.
We walked for what felt like miles until we reached a subway access grate.
We climbed out into the cool night air of the city.
Sirens wailed in the distance.
Damian told me we had to end this tonight.
He led us to a towering glass skyscraper in the financial district.
It was his father's corporate headquarters.
We bypassed the security guards using Damian's executive codes.
We rode the private elevator up to the penthouse.
The doors slid open to reveal an empty, luxurious office.
Damian's father was sitting calmly behind a massive mahogany desk.
He did not look like a man who just tried to burn his son alive.
He pressed a button on his desk.
