Chapter 2 - The Portrait

The SUV pulled up to a massive iron gate that slowly swung open.

We drove up a long driveway surrounded by dark trees.

Damian led me into a mansion that looked more like a fortress.

Leah refused to let go of my hand for even a second.

We walked down a long hallway lined with expensive art.

We stopped in front of a giant oil painting at the end of the corridor.

Damian pointed at the canvas with a shaking hand.

He told me it was a painting of Leah's mother.

I stared at the woman in the painting and felt the air leave my lungs.

The woman had my eyes.

She had my exact smile and the same small scar above her left eyebrow.

It was not just a resemblance.

The woman in the portrait was an exact replica of me.

I backed away until I hit the wall.

Damian stepped into my personal space.

He asked me if I had a twin sister.

I told him I was an only child.

He pulled a small silver key from his pocket and unlocked a door beneath the painting.

He told me I needed to see what they found in her grave.
